CONTRARY TO POPULAR OPINION.

Here are some of our fondest dreams.
1. Myth: There is time
Reality: You have less time now than you have ever had. You have less time now than you had an hour ago. You are nearer to your death than you have ever been. Plan thoroughly, but don’t wait too long before taking action.
2. Myth: You can rely on other people
Reality: You are more alone than you know. Certainly, there are people who care about you and will support you, but they can disappear at any time. We are all ships passing in the night. Some stay longer than others, and it is good to enjoy the company and the love of other people, but in the end, we are sailing our ship alone.
3. Myth: You are important
Reality: Go and stand outside at night and look up at the sky. Contemplate how remarkably insignificant you are in this vast swirling chaos of darkness. In a hundred years from now, chances are nobody will even remember your name. Why would they? So make these few short years matter.
4. Myth: You should put others before yourself
Reality: Sometimes we fall victim to a vague sense that, in order to be ‘good’ or to ‘do the right thing,’ we have to put other people before our own needs. I’m not entirely sure where this comes from – perhaps from our Puritan forefathers – but the truth is that your happiness is number one. Let’s not deceive ourselves – we want to be happy and we care more about this than anything else.
5. Myth: Conflict should be avoided
Reality: Conflict is all around us. Our ancestors were almost constantly in open conflict and, although we might think we have risen above such things in our ‘civilized’ societies, if you just scratch the surface you will find plenty of evidence of conflict taking place. The truth is that conflict cannot be avoided. We are all different and have different needs and perspectives, so it is inevitable that conflict will arise sooner or later. Instead of trying to avoid it, why not embrace it? The kid who stands up to the school bully won’t get pushed around; the one who tried to avoid trouble only ends up bringing more trouble his way.
6. Myth: The difference between success and failure is LUCK.
Reality: This is a myth that appeals to the lazy. Being successful – whatever that means – takes some planning, commitment and work. Yes, there are many things outside our control, but the lives of successful people are full of lessons we can apply: courage, persistence, single mindedness, vision. To say that success is down to chance is to abdicate responsibility for our own lives.
These, and other myths should be recognized and ruthlessly eliminated. I leave you with more wisdom from Anthony de Mello, a man who truly saw through the dream:
‘Most people, even though they don’t know it, are asleep. They’re born asleep, they marry in their sleep, they breed children in their sleep, they die in their sleep without ever waking up.’
by Mark Harrison

So, are you still dreaming?

"Eleven Hints for Life"

Hey,

1. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return.
But what is more painful is to love someone and never
find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

2. A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who
means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was
never meant to be and you just have to let go.

3. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a
porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk away
feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

4. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose
it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been
missing until it arrives.

5. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an
hour to like someone, and a day to love someone-but it
takes a lifetime to forget someone.

6. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth,
even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you
smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day
seem bright.

7. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go,
be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and
one chance to do all the things you want to do.

8. Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel that it
hurts you, it probably hurts the person too.

9. A careless word may kindle strife. A cruel word may wreck
a life. A timely word may level stress. But a loving word may
heal and bless.

10. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best
of everything they just make the most of everything that comes
along their way.

11. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends with
a tear. When you were born, you were crying and everyone
around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die,
you're the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.

BE HAPPY

Hey, another weekend and more than anything, i am unlearning life. Yes, all i have known before now havnt worked for me so, here is what i found out. That life is very short and more often than not, your expected source doesnt always have your answers.  Hard truths but truth all the same. Enjoy this with me.

Only we can make ourselves happy in life. Sometimes we need to stop enjoy the little things in life every once in awhile. Here's some steps on how to make yourself happy. You can do it!

1. Make yourself your own boss.

We are given the wonderful gift, knowing we can make our own choices in life. Some may be bad, some good. You should feel good knowing that you get to decide what you want to do. Don't be shy in doing something you want, and not what others expect or want you to do. Maybe your doing what others want and not what you want is not making you real happy. We only live once, so live your life for yourself.
2. Make sure you're honest with yourself.
You know, I used to live in lies. Not just with myself, but with others. Lying doesn't make your conscience feel good at all. In fact it eats away at you and it's impossible to really be happy with yourself. Start being honest and accept things how they are, is truly a great step in being happy with your life. Try it and see if it works. You won't feel that heavy burden of trying to fit into something that you aren't. Be who you are.

3. Make sure you have music in your life.
Yes, that's right, I've discovered listening to variety of different music really relaxes the soul and makes you feel more content and up beat. Sometimes words are truly wisdom, that encourages us. It keeps us maintaining positive vibes. Negative vibes is what makes one miserable obviously. Maybe you should change your music taste, or listen to more? Listen to music the encourages you. Sometimes I listen to music and helps me to inspire to write about something.
 4. Make sure you're taking the proper supplements.
For instance, like Omega-3 fish oil, which is known to boost your mood. Drink Green tea is extremely good and eat more vegetables and fruits. Don't eat a lot of grains and avoid a lot of dairy. I've read studies how a lot of what you eat can effect if you're depressed. Seems silly, but it's true. Proper diet really makes a difference not just physically, but mentally.
 5. Do new things.
Sometimes we get bored in our lives, because everything is the same. That can lead to never being truly content with ourselves. Challenge yourself, try new things. Learn new things. Learn to play the piano, watch a movie you normally wouldn't watch. Be open to change and learning more about who you are and what you like. We are always learning more about ourselves. We don't know everything about us, so search for more. Try new things.
 6. Try to have a positive outlook and don't dwell on the negative.
Oh this is why some people can never be happy, they always think about the bad. Think about the good things. Think about a sunny day, a sunset, something that makes you laugh or smile. Make a deal with yourself and stop worrying over everything little thing. Problems can be fixed, it's okay. Think about things that you enjoy.
 7. Make sure you're not blaming everyone else for where you are at.
It's not the people who make us miserable, it's us. Don't blame others for your misery. People can make you sad and mad. But only yourself can make you miserable in this life. You have the power to be happy. You need to feel content about yourself, and believe in who you are. You have the power to meet others and do anything you want to. We are our only limitations in life, not the ones around us, or circumstances. Remember that. Other people become the easy part. People see these positive vibes and it changes their outlook on you and maybe themselves even.
8. Go out and meet new people. Maybe the crowd you are hanging out with aren't giving you joy. Sometimes you might need a change in friends. Are you happy with who you are hanging out with?
9. Go on a vacation.
Take a vacation, see new things. Sometimes you need a break from a job and need different scenery. Maybe you need more adventure in your life.

 10. Go and do things that scare you.Overcoming fears is one of the best ways to be happy and content in life. Don't worry about failing, just try something, or face something that scares you. We make things out to be worse in our own minds, then what they really are.
So lets see now...what scares you?
Have a boundless weekend and do not over indulge.

One love.

weekend chores...

whats your's like?

These can really get monotonous and so you must make a conscious effort to rekindle this time of the week.

You look forward to it so much that it comes and goes b4 you say alu...not aluu oh...
So yes, its TGIF, a day looked forward to by many. I don't think housewives look forward to it though. Except ofcourse they do early morning school run.

When not organised, they turn out to be the busiest days. Its either market, mechanics workshops, events and home chores.
Here's a tip to ease it out for ya... prepare to reap the benefits all week long:

  • Schedule a time slot for errands. Spend five to 10 minutes each Friday figuring out which tasks you need to check off by Sunday night. Make a list and plan to take care of them in one day so that you'll have at least one full day to have fun and fill however you'd like. Once you've finished brainstorming and marked the to-dos on your calendar, move the chores to the back of your mind and focus on enjoying your days off.
  • Keep up your routine. If you wake up at 6 a.m. throughout the week, don't sleep until 11 a.m. on weekends. Give your body a break and stick fairly close to your standard sleep schedule. Same goes for your diet: don't shock your body with excess food or alcohol or you'll risk getting sick. Just because it's Saturday doesn't mean you should toss your healthy habits aside, so keep your mind and body in shape by taking your vitamins, eating balanced meals, and staying hydrated.
  • Chill out, guilt-free. The best thing you can do to kick-start a productive work week? Relax. Use your time off to cut yourself some slack and enjoy the things you love. It's important to maintain a work-life balance, so remember to reserve at least one day each weekend to sit back and unwind. You must be engaging in moments that do not affect you wholesomely.
Whats yours? could be sleep? catching up with friends? Going out for a dance? Having drinks with friends or even just stayin indoors listening to music or watching movies.

One boundless love guys.

Build Up Your Self Confidence

"God helps those who help themselves" -though not scriptural, it emphasizes the need to be confident, because only a confident person has the guts to face adversities, risk, curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any other experience that reveals the human spirit.
Self confidence gives us the freedom to commit mistakes and cope with failure without making us feel worthless. If we have confidence in ourselves, we gain confidence of others. After all, most people are reluctant to back a project that's being pitched by someone who is nervous, fumbling and overly apologetic. On the other hand, you might be persuaded by someone who spoke clearly, who held his or her head high, who answered questions assuredly, and who readily admitted when they did not know something.
The good news is that self confidence can be learned and built on.
All you have to do is try and implement the following given tips in your day to day life.
1) Recognize your insecurities: we all have insecurities in life. It can be anything from acne to regrets, to friends at school. Giving a name to the things which make you feel unworthy, ashamed or inferior helps to combat them. You can try to pen down your thoughts and you will find that it makes you feel much lighter and happier. Remember that no one is perfect. The man or woman sitting next to you might have the same amount of insecurities as you have. If writing doesn't come easily to you, you might want to talk it out with your friends or loved ones. Sharing your thoughts will help relieve the burden you have been carrying alone.
2) Identify your successes: no matter how insecure you might feel, God has blessed each one of us with some talent. Discover the things you are good at and then focus on improving them. Give yourself permission to take pride in your talents. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority is a state of mind in which you've declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized.
3) Be thankful for what you have: a lot of the times, at the root of insecurity and lack of confidence is a feeling of not having enough of something, whether it's emotional validation, luck, money, etc. By acknowledging and appreciating what you do have, you can combat the feeling of being incomplete and unsatisfied. Finding that inner peace will do wonders for your confidence.
4) Be positive: avoid self-pity or sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior - they can only do so if you let them. If you continue to loathe and belittle yourself, others are going to do and believe likewise. Instead, speak positively about yourself, your future, your progress. Do not be afraid to project your strengths and qualities to others.
5) Dress sharp: although clothes don't make the man, they certainly affect the way he feels about himself. When you don't look good, you don't feel good. It changes the way you carry yourself and interact with people. This doesn't mean you need to spend a fortune on clothes. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many selected, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes.
6) Walk faster: your pace tells a lot about your personality. Is it slow? Tired? Painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, important work to do. You can increase your self confidence by putting some pep in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important.
7) Compliment other people: when we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip.Refuse to engage in backstabbing gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you. In the process, you'll become well liked and build up your self-confidence. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.
8) Take the front seat: backbenchers might seem to have a lot of fun in schools and colleges, but that does nothing to boost their self confidence. Don't be afraid to get noticed. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over your irrational fear of getting noticed and build up your self confidence.
9) Speak up: it's a general observation that many people are afraid to speak or ask questions in a group discussion or a public gathering. They are afraid that they might be judged for saying something stupid. Generally, people are much more accepting than we imagine. In fact, most people are dealing with the exact same fears. By making an effort to speak up at least once in every group discussion, you'll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your peers.
10) Work out: a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. If you are fit, you are surrounded by positivity and energy. If you are out of shape, you feel unattractive. This leads to demoralization. Just a little discipline in your life can help shape up your self confidence a lot.
11) Smile, last but not least: try to smile as much as possible. People are always appreciative of a smiling face. You will be welcomed by anyone who comes in your contact. A smiling face is always received with warmth and affection. Acceptance and recognition from others helps in building self confidence.
So where do you rate yourself on the scale for your confidence level?

The simple power of one a day

Now this one is for me too.
But why not, share in these classic tips.
Enjoy and most of all, DO.

There are at least 200 working days a year. If you commit to doing a simple marketing item just once each day, at the end of the year you've built a mountain. Here are some things you might try (don't do them all, just one of these once a day would change things for you):
  • Send a handwritten and personal thank you note to a customer
  • Write a blog post about how someone is using your product or service
  • Research and post a short article about how something in your industry works
  • Introduce one colleague to another in a significant way that benefits both of them
  • Read the first three chapters of a business or other how-to book
  • Record a video that teaches your customers how to do something
  • Teach at least one of your employees a new skill
  • Go for a ten minute walk and come back with at least five written ideas on how to improve what you offer the world
  • Change something on your website and record how it changes interactions
  • Help a non-profit in a signficant way (make a fundraising call, do outreach)
  • Write or substiantially edit a Wikipedia article
  • Find out something you didn't know about one of your employees or customers or co-workers
Enough molehills is all you need to have a mountain.

 lets go for these molehillsguys.

Lagos Runs Girl Dies During Marathon Sex.

A bizarre incident changed the mood of the ever-bubbling night life of the Alaba Rago area of Lagos State recently, as one of the top ‘runs’ girl in the zone, Faith Akin, was found dead inside an hotel room in controversial circumstance.
Although Faith was discovered naked with foamy substance on her mouth, there were different accounts of how she died. But an eyewitness said she was likely poisoned shortly before having sexual intercourse with the client.

Another version is that the client, one Nuru, who is now a suspect in her murder, took a local sex stimulant which the deceased could not withstand. Yet another version of the unfortunate incident is that Nuru intended to use the dead lady’s virginal fluid for money ritual.

But stating his own side of the story, Nuru who has been detained at the State CID, Yaba, described the allegations against him as false. He opened up that he picked her among the commercial sex workers that beckoned on him that night in the ‘runs’ zone.

Narrating how it happened, the Hausa man said “I do not know her name like I earlier claimed. But I usually saw her around the area every night. So, that night, I told her I would be needing her all through the night and she billed me N2,000; we checked into the hotel at about 11p.m. I had her twice all through”.

Asked if he took any sexual enhancer, he shook his head and replied, “No. I only took Indian hemp. I did not take burantanshi (local sexual enhancer) as speculated.”

When asked at what point he noticed his companion was no longer breathing, he replied: “I cannot tell because, most times, these girls will just stay calm while you do your ‘thing’. So, I did not know if she was dead. Again, I never had any sinister motive. I was not with any charm, neither did I strangle her. She was the person that undressed herself”.

Back at the deceased home, the atmosphere was one of sorrow. Faith’s mother was shocked at the shameful news she got about her daughter. It was gathered she told her mother she was going to visit a friend that fateful day but never returned home. Apprehension set in after waiting for two days without any knowledge of her whereabouts, until the shameful news was broken to them through a friend of Faith.

The remains of young lady, who hailed from Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State, have been buried by her family. As for Nuru, police sources say he may likely appear in court after investigations.

For Faith, its a good night,
for us alive, its a lesson.
Remain boundless in a world of boundaries.

The Depression Diaries

Depression: My Unknown Battle

I cry a lot. I just lost my mother to cancer six months ago. And yes, I sleep a lot. Who wouldn't? I set my alarm for 5 a.m. five days a week to make sure my kids are up and out the door on time. The naps during the day are due to my seizure medications...I think.
As a writer I began researching these symptoms and self-diagnosed. Aha! It's hypothyroidism. I knew there was a reason I couldn't lose weight...I knew there was a reason my cholesterol was so high. It couldn't be the fried food or lack of exercise. However, in the end it was depression. And here I am now, beating depression
Anyone who lives with this illness knows how devastating it is to your life. The good days are great, while the bad days are horrendous. You want to crawl inside yourself and make the world go away, even those you love the most. Your thoughts are all that matter, and they take over your mind...your emotions. I never thought I would experience this illness, but here I am, talking to you now about it and my road to recovery.
All you can do when you have depression is recognize any triggers and find ways to cope. For me, the death of my mother is my main trigger. Sometimes just saying her name makes my eyes well with tears, and these tears don't end right away. I don't talk about her to anyone simply because I believe those around me are getting tired of hearing about her. Instead I talk to her. Sometimes I write to her in a journal; this takes the place of our nightly phone calls.
I also take walks, especially when the sun is shining. This helps boost my mood. When he is being good, I take my German Shepherd with me. He is my buddy, and he does not talk back, he just listens.

Have you over come depression? Share your diary with us. And remain boundless.

Creativity a Symptom of Mental Illness?

New study reveals a dramatic flare for the arts may just be a repercussion of one's own craziness.

Art lovers have long known that Van Gogh — who chopped off his ear — suffered from mental illness. Fans of Virginia Woolf know that the author — who killed herself — was frequently depressed. A new study from Sweden's Karolinska Institute suggests that an artist's creativity may be linked to his or her mental illness
The brightest and most creative minds present and past — many responsible for art, literature, and music — are treated more frequently for mental illness when compared to the general population.
By studying 1.2 million patients, including both in-hospital and outpatient care, researchers found that artists and scientists — as well as their relatives in creative professions — were members of families that showed a greater history of bipolar disease, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, autism, drug and alcohol abuse, ADHD, anorexia, and suicide.
Results also confirmed that bipolar disease was more common in creative professional populations such as authors, dancers, and photographers. Writers had an even more specific correlation with psychiatric diseases than general creative people and were twice as likely to commit suicide.
Evidence of the link between mental illness and creative genius raises the possibility for new mental health treatments in the future.  "If one takes the view that certain phenomena associated with the patient's illness are beneficial, it opens the way for a new approach to treatment," says Simon Kyaga, consultant in psychiatry and doctoral student at the Karolinska Institute's department of medical epidemiology and biostatistics.

Infact, i am such a rare breed no one contest...#wink wink...
any way, its not about me but this set of corp  members passing out today.
I was one of the 5 best corp members in the FCT batch b set 2004.
The award was a donation of N50,000 and a job offer.
Yeah, a job offer.
As a theatre art major, i was told i would be attached to the ordely or aides of the then minister of the fct, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
I had another choice, to pursue a career in broadcasting with a guarantee of London trainings
You guessed right.
I chose the British council's offer as against the minister's.
So my concern today is how many of these corp members have these options?
I also hear there will be no parade for the batch C corp members in the FCT.
These guys are victims of our time.
They would not enjoy the glitz and glamour i did during my time.
what does that say of them? do they feel like they miss something? They might not be aware of what they miss but we pray they do not miss the many more opportunities that come with serving your country.

Gee Wende is passing out today,...or do i say is collecting her certificate today? These smiles exude hope, confidence and excitement. Here is praying that Nigeria is proud of her and serves her the right dish as she steps out of this uniform.

Peace to Nigeria indeed Miss Jande. As you pass out today, may good doors open for you. Peace will lead the way for you in Nigeria.

Chenemi  looks cool calm and collected, but again with a mischievous 'Are you ready for me' look for Nigeria.Stories abound about the plight and mishaps of young women in today's generation.
This is wishing the society is ready for you dearie.

Jennifer Ugela has a question for mr President. Drop it like its hot babes thats what i see beyond your smile here. You never know, he just might answer you.

Miss Jando below has a mien so unbeatable. She would step out and live her dreams. She looks like she would not be stopped.

Wao! Dont blame me i have only ladies here.
Quick advise though, y'all go out and doo that which you love best to do. Thats the secret of true joy. Its not usually found but trust me. Ply your trade, your talent and skill work the most like magic. So you can be an employer of labour and not wait to be employed.
Mwuaaah! step out and live your live.
Welcome to Nigeria!
Put your lighters up girls!
and choose to be boundless.

One love.

Johnny Depp Branches Out

Guys, see reasons these guys always stay on top.

Johnny Depp Branches Out Into Book Publishing
Johnny Depp has already established himself as one of Hollywood's top actors/producers and is now partnering with publishing giant HarperCollins to release a series of book titles.
The titles -- to be published by Harper under the imprint Infinitum Nihil -- will reflect the actor's "diverse interests and passions," according to a news release sent out Tuesday by HarperCollins Publishers.
The list's first title will be a biological work delving into the life of Bob Dylan, entitled The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan, by New York Times-bestselling author Douglas Brinkley. The book is based on archival research and exclusive interviews with Dylan and is intended to "set the record straight on scores of issues pertaining to the rock-and-roll legend."
Depp, 49, said he's excited to be joining the publishing world and looks forward to helping produce quality material. "I pledge, on behalf of Infinitum Nihil, that we will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples' time, of peoples' concern. Publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet. For this dream realized, we would like to salute HarperCollins for their faith in us and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship together.

So these guys branch out to remain relevant! Good secret to take me to the end of the year. What will you branch out on to remain boundless?
One boundless love.

Is this the Next Generation in HIV Prevention?

This mail  is from takepart.com.  They are surely a boundless bunch! wao!
While the ring may not totally replace condoms, it does offer women and couples more choices for disease prevention, and could be a sweet alternative to begging a partner to wear a condom.
"We're just trying to give women more options to protect themselves," Patrick Kiser, associate professor of bioengineering at the University of Utah, told TakePart. Kiser is leading the development of one of the new rings, and one of the project's main missions is to reduce the rate ofHIV infection globally, not just in the U.S.
The ring is similar to existing contraceptive vaginal rings, which provide long-lasting birth control, and to rings that deliver estrogen replacement therapy to post-menopausal women.
The ring itself is made up in part of plastic tubing that absorbs water when it's in the body, necessary for delivering water-soluble drugs such as tenofovir, Kiser says. Tenofovir is one of the medications found in the combination medicine Truvada, recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration for HIV prevention.
So far Kiser's ring has only been tested in sheep, but intravaginal rings for HIV prevention are also being studied by others, including the National Institutes of Health and the Population Council.
The NIH's new study, ASPIRE (A Study to Prevent Infection with a Ring for Extended Use), was launched earlier this year. Researchers hope to enroll nearly 3,500 women in five countries to test the device.
NIH researchers will compare a silicone ring with the drug dapivirine, another antiretroviral medicine, to a ring with placebo and test how well the dapivirine works to reduce HIV transmission.
Kiser expects that human studies of the new ring he's helping to develop will begin in less than a year, but right now it's not known for sure how effective the new rings will prove in humans. Studies by the Population Council done in animals found a similar ring was more than 80 percent effective in preventing virus transmission.
Costs for the devices have not yet been estimated, although Kiser says the rings are inexpensive to make. "We expect it to be highly affordable," he says, adding that the rings can be washed and reused and can't be detected by a male partner.
The rings may be especially helpful to couples in which one is HIV-positive, to help avoid infection of the still-healthy partner, he says. "In principle it would reduce the need for condom use in some people. We would still promote condom use if folks don't know their HIV status."
Globally, about 34 million children and adults are infected, according to the World Health Organization.
While much emphasis has been placed on developing drugs to cure HIV, prevention has been a focus of research as well, especially in countries where HIV rates are high.
Would you use a ring for HIV prevention?

Me...? I think i...

WORLD’S SEXIEST SHOE REVEALED

Saks Fifth Avenue has revealed the world’s sexiest shoe, as voted by its consumers.
Christian Louboutin’s Pigalle spiked red heel was the winner of the annual competition, beating out 25 other designs from brands including Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and Stuart Weitzman, the latter of which took out the runner-up title.
But it was Louboutin's iconic red-soled heels, which retail at approximately AU$1,155, that stole the show.
Made out of patent red leather, the shoes boast a four-inch heel and are encrusted with red spikes.
“Christian Louboutin's patent-leather pumps are the epitome of fierce footwear,” says net-a-porter.com. “We love the fiery hue and signature red soles - clash yours against sleek black pants for the ultimate in after-dark dressing.”
With celebrity fans including Blake Lively, Emma Stone and Kim Kardashian, it’s easy to see why the brand might have taken out the coveted top spot.

6 ways to help kids have a healthy relationship with food

Now this whole post was worth my reading and i thought...why the hell not?

My 9-year-old saw a headline in my
e-mail that read “10 Foods You Should NEVER Eat!” He grabbed me and said, “Mom, have you read this? I thought there weren’t foods we should never eat. You said all foods were okay once in a while.”
I was so proud!
(Katrina Wittkamp - GETTY IMAGES)
As a mom who knows too much about our food system and the potential hazards to my children, I struggle to maintain a smile when my kids are handed red food-dyed snacks at soccer practice or served Coke at a birthday party. I was worried I had forever damaged them by cringing around certain food products. So the fact that my son understands that healthful foods are better choices, but that all food is okay in small doses, makes me sigh with relief.
Many children grow up with eating disorders and unhealthy associations to food. So how do we help our kids have a healthy relationship to food?
Here are a few simple suggestions:
1 Food, especially unhealthful food, shouldn’t be used as a reward. The common incentive used by parents “Eat your vegetables so you can have dessert” clearly communicates to children that vegetables are to be avoided and desserts are to be desired.
2 Food should not be used as a punishment either. Taking away dessert as discipline teaches kids that dessert is the prize.
3 Labeling a food as “bad” can cause children to feel guilty or bad themselves when they eat it. Instead label unhealthful foods “sometimes foods,” as they really are the foods we should eat only sometimes.
4 Unhealthful foods shouldn’t be labeled “treats” either. Wouldn’t it be great if our kids perceived a delicious ripe peach or a slice of summer watermelon as a treat?
5 A child forced to eat may not learn what it feels like to be hungry or full, or how to listen to his body. Sometimes kids are not hungry. That’s okay. Don’t then force them to eat five more bites.
6 Teaching children that a holiday or celebration is about spending time with friends, participating in a fun activity or being active together, instead of simply consuming a lot of food and drink, is an important message. When our kids are teenagers and win a sports championship, or when they are adults and receive a promotion, we hope they will understand that celebrating does not need to be focused on excessive consumption of food and drink.
So as much as I’d love to tell my children that they should never eat at McDonald’s and always refuse soda and fluorescent food products, that’s not a healthy message. And knowing most kids, it might make them more determined to get their paws on those forbidden fruits!
So what is the right message to our kids?
The right message is that certain foods nourish our bodies, make us strong and help us feel good. We should fill our bodies with those foods when we are hungry at a meal. Other foods don’t do those wonderful things for us, so we should eat them on occasion. All food should be enjoyed.
Then, if you are like me, hide your grimaced face and keep your mouth shut when they dive into those Spider-Man snacks because “sometimes foods” are absolutely okay sometimes.
