Boundless Nigerian student builds car powered by solar


A young Nigerian student doing his last year in electronic and electrical engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has built a car operating on solar power.

Segun Oyeyiola explains that his car uses both wind and solar energy for the functioning, The Net reports. Moreover, the man developed an application for its installation in the car, which app will inform the driver about the battery level, weather conditions and other essential parameters.

Two days after ending her three-day visit to Nigeria, Pakistani girls’ education campaigner, Malala Yousafzai, has launched a petition seeking international intervention for the release of the abducted Chibok girls.
The 17-year-old activist, who survived assassination attempts by the Taliban extremist group, stated that she wanted the global community to stand with the Nigerian girls and shame those working to deny schoolgirls an education.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) says that the controversial screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s book, Half of A Yellow Sun, directed by Biyi Bandele has finally been approved. According to the Board’s Corporate Affairs representative, Caesar Kagho, the film which stars Academy Awards nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hollywood star, Thandie Newton and A list Nollywood actors, has been approved for viewership in Nigeria and rated “18″.

The United States has said the Nigerian government should be held responsible for the seeming lack of progress in the search and rescue of the over 200 kidnapped Chibok school girls. The over 270 girls were kidnapped from the dormitory of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, by the Boko Haram. Over 50 of them escaped and reunited with their family while 219 are believed to still be with the insurgents.

 Girl-child education advocate, Malala Yousafzai, accompanied by her dad, met with Pres. Jonathan yesterday July 14 at the State House. 

 

Malala made the donation of $200,000 from her scholarship fund for the education of her fellow Nigeria sisters.
