It was another good day for the Abuja Children's Book Club on the
23rd of September 2017, when we reviewed "Like
Father, Like Son" by Kayode Adeyemo.
Salma Ekanem summarises the book by saying it is a book that shows that children will always learn from their parents, whatsoever it is, they do.
In this book, a Js 1 pupil was known to be a habitual thief and the source manifested when his father visited the school and also stole the principal's phone.
The younger class also had an exciting session with Makcit. check them out.
With their short attention life span, you do not want to stretch them beyond their productive absorption hours.
Yep...Having read the book, everyone is eager to make contributions
Apart from the brief informative talk on peace by one of our Mums Ann Iyonu to commemorate the International Day of Peace that taught us to starting building tolerance as kids and to never take laws into our hands.
Ms Ann Iyonu is the programme officer of Institute of War and Peae Reporting-WPR. She shared with the children alternative ways of expressing anger or dissatisfaction.
I guess she had a good time with the children especially when they enaged her in what to do where the security agencies are not forth coming.
The Children also had a refreshing discussion on the book
With a broad spectrum of opinions and thoughts on the lessons
learned from the book, we were able to identify with the obvious,
understand the
argumentative,
and explain to the kids who didn't
complete the book.
We concluded the day with an interesting quiz where we learned one of life's important lessons that the organisers try to impart into the kids;
Didi taking the quiz which is grouped in three parts: The books read in the past, the outing experience the club members have had and continental knowledge of countries and her leaders
Winner of the prize-Aliza with Ufuoma
Louisa came 2nd place!
A cheerful Vanessa came 3rd out of the 5 contestants
Oh yes...we read the books as well. Didi already ahead of the class. With the knowledge and deep understanding displayed by these children, we the trainers need to always be on top of the game.
KEY LESSONS FOR THE DAY: Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, Our reactions matter most.
See y'all at the independence event of the Book club where we would m=be making Shawarma, Pizza and burger and then a movie and a brief talk on the civil responsibilities of children as leaders of tomorrow, as we mark our 57th independence.
