Herdsmen Attacks: Tivs in Diasporans Warn of Dire Consequences
27 Mar 2014
By Senator Iroegbu
The Tivs in Diaspora under the auspices of the Mutual Union of the Tivs in America (MUTA) have warned that they can no longer tolerate the incessant attacks and killings of their kiths and kins in Benue State by the suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The group, which is a registered association of the sons and daughters of Tiv in the Americas (United States, Canada, Mexico), and a non-profit, non-partisan charitable organisation committed to promoting and supporting the Tiv communities and others both in Nigeria and around the world, strongly condemned what it described as the orchestrated attacks and killings of their people in parts of Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States by Fulani herdsmen and mercenaries.
BENUE KILLINGS: NO ADO ABOUT SO MUCH!
The e-generation has made the world so close yet so far. I have a couple of family and friends that i chat with so regularly but i don't remember when last we saw.
So it was via chat my good friend told me she dreamt. First week in February she said she had a dream that there was a war situation in Benue State. As it is in our custom, i silently rebuked this dream. It was one of those chats that would not mean any more than it was. A chat. Keeping up with friends. But today March 27th2014, no less than 1000 people have been reported dead in the media. I am careful to say 'reported in the media' because there are many more unreported cases in this 'war situation'. I will be as blunt as can be as i give some of the theories i have heard.

THE BENUE/ FULANI CRISES:A CASE OF SETTLER'S IMPERIALISM...Prof. Tor Iorapuu
benue liberation Alliance (BLA) press briefing MARCH 22 2014 NUJ HOUSE, UTAKO –ABUJA By Prof. Tor Iorapuu (Patron) Bar. Mike Utsaha & Ene EdehDisplaced indigenes of Guma LG in Benue State.
The objective of this important Press Conference is to add our voice to already existing information before the Federal Government, the Nigerian public space and the entire world, relating to the persistent attacks on Benue people and their ancestral homes over the years. The Benue Liberation Alliance is particularly scandalized that with all the first hand information before the Federal government, very little action has been taken in terms of providing adequate security and protection of lives and properties of the people of Benue.

THE FACE OF THE 21ST CENTURY BENUE
Benue State is in the middle belt. It is home to predominant Tiv race, Idomas, Igede, Etulo and Abakwa.
It is the food basket of the nation and is largely an agrarian state. Benué State is named after the Benué River and was formed from the former Benue-Plateau State on the 3rd of february 1976. As a 38year anniversary, this February has presented the worst gift of all. As i write, Benue is being robbed, rapped, hunted, maligned, defaced and burnt down. Herdsmen is what we are told. How can the innocent, unassuming citizen be protected?
Follow the link and see the face of the 21st Century Benue.

Billionaires 2014: The World's Richest Women
It was a record-breaking year for women on the FORBES list of the
World Billionaires. Out of 1,645 billionaires, a record 172 are women –
up from 138 last year. There’s no denying that women are still a tiny
minority on the list, representing a little over 10% of the total.
At the top, Christy Walton reclaims her spot as the richest woman with a $36.7 billion fortune. The widow of John Walton has had that title for four out of the last five years. She has boosted her fortune above the rest of the Walton family members through her ownership of First Solar shares. That stock rose nearly 50% in the past year.

CALMING NERVES...HERE'S HOW TO DO-IT-YOURSELF
You don’t always need a pill to calm down and chill. Agitated
nerves love a soothing touch, a few moments spent in serenity, and some
feel-good mind-body tricks. I found some and want to share...
Press the webbing of your hand: it is the fleshy area
between your thumb and forefinger. Press both sides of one hand with
your other thumb, slowly making small circles. Acupressure experts say
it brings relief from headaches in less than a minute. I just find that
it eases my nerves. You can learn many more simple and effective
self-relaxation tips;
So much more ado about apple...
Most of us have heard the adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor
away” throughout our lives, but new research shows that there is serious
truth to the message.

Scientists at BHF Health Promotion Research Group, Nuffield Department of Population Health, at the University of Oxford, England compared the effects of eating one daily apple to taking statin drugs (used to lower cholesterol levels) among British adults aged 50 and up. The study participants made no other dietary or lifestyle changes and their mortality rates from heart attacks and strokes were recorded.
The results of the study were published in BMJ.

STILL ON THE KILLINGS IN NIGERIA.
Do you remember the reaction from some countries especially the US government when a terrorist/Bombing case takes place?

Please compare it with what we have in Nigeria. If it was only for the talk we would be in order but think about the pace with which the next event takes place.

Vegetables
Your mistake: Microwaving or boiling them
The fix: Steaming
Why it works: Steaming helps
retain cancer-fighting nutrients in broccoli better than other cooking
methods, reports a new study from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. Sulforaphane — a plant compound with strong
anti-cancer properties — is abundant in cruciferous vegetables like
broccoli, cauliflower, kale and arugula. The enzyme myrosinase is
necessary to release the compound, but most cooking methods destroy it.
Steaming is a slower, gentler heat and isn’t intense enough to kill
myrosinase, explains study author Elizabeth Jeffery, Ph.D. Cook broccoli
in a steaming basket for three to four minutes for the biggest
cancer-fighting boost.
