NEMA has warned that floods are imminent and state governments are doing what they have to do but here is an NGO that just does it because they have the heart. Pictures speak louder than words.
The Alumni of
the Kennedy Lugar-Youth Exchange and Study program (KL-YES), Benue State on the
13th, September, 2013, carried out an awareness campaign educating
the students of Gaadi Comprehensive College, KM 5, Gboko road, Benue State, who
reside at the river bank on the need to prepare for emergency.
The school is situated within the flood
area and 80 percent of the students are mostly residents of the flood prone
environ. The YES Alumni explained the causes of flood and its negative
effects. Most of the students agreed
they were affected by the flood disaster last year but surprisingly were not
aware of the warnings and alerts on the Radio and Internets for the possible
disaster about to happen due to the heavy downpour. The Alumni urged Students residing within
that area to be vigilant, heed to the warning and help their parents prepare to
avoid the severe emotional damage and massive loss of property they experienced
last year.
They further told the students not to
wait for the Government when the damage has been caused but should imbibe the
tradition of being a brother’s keeper by lending a helping hand to a family in
distress.
The KL-YES Alumni that carried out the
awareness campaign are:
